The Basotho are very proud of their native crafts. Native Crafts : pottery, leather work, wood or mahair tapestries, and straw weaving. Artisans decorate woolen blankets with historical depictions. These items are displayed in an annual festival called Morija Cultural Festival. They have strong traditions in music and dance. Usually they perform at informal gatherings or special events. Village or School choirs hold singing competitions as fundraisers. Traditional musical instruments are made of old tin containers, animal hides, and gourds. Traditional activities are declining. Many people are learning traditions through books. Not many people are teaching the arts.
