Customs and traditions

There are many different greetings in Lesotho. Like after shaking hands two people greet by either say either saying Lumela (which means hello), or Khotso (which means peace be with you). If two people are acquainted they will politely ask how one anothers family is doing. Many greeting habits do vary. While greeting Basotho will do many different things. Basotho will yell through the door after knocking to let the host know who it is. It is also polite for a host to invite a business partner for a drink or food. Most of the time a host will allow their guest to sleep at their house if the guest lives far away. The Basotho dress in an old western style clothes. Sometimes they wear a designed blanket around them. Hats are typically worn on a daily basis. They do dress depending on weather so if it is warm they'll dress coolly, but as it gets colder they will start to put more layers on.
